COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT:
BEWARE OF SCAMS:
Today, the internet and international phone calls make it easy for
victims, many of them older Americans, to be targeted from anywhere in the
world. Scam artists use false names and electronic tricks to hide who and
where they really are. U.S.-Canadian cross border fraud task forces
are helping stop these crimes, but prevention still is the best medicine.

February
7, 2012 - The Largest Earthquake Drill in Central U.S. History
More than 2 Million
Now participating in the Great Central U.S. Shakeout Earthquake Drill
Would
You Know What To Do During an Earthquake? Drop, cover
and hold on. Those are the steps people all over the Central
United States are being encouraged to follow on Feb. 7 at
10:15 a.m. CST. It's all a part of the annual central U.S.
ShakeOut, an earthquake drill organized and coordinated by
the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium and its Member and
Associate States, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),
the U.S. Geological Survey and dozens of other
partners.
This
is an opportunity for the whole community to engage in a
simultaneous drill to practice the recommended action during
an earthquake which is Drop, Cover, and Hold On and to
exercise earthquake plans. You only have seconds to react to
an earthquake, so it's important to know what to do when the
ground starts shaking.
On
Feb. 7 you can practice the following:
- DROP to the ground,
- Take
COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table, and
- HOLD
ON to it until the shaking stops.
The
ShakeOut is FREE and open to the general
public. You can get more information and/or register to
participate by visiting www.shakeout.org/centralus. For
more information on earthquake
preparedness tips, visit www.ready.gov.

Bicyclists Safety:
We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful town with so many places to
walk, jog and bike. Places such as our new Greenway are used daily by many
of us. However, please remember the following safety tips:
●
If you are walking, jogging or biking during low light conditions or after
darkness, wear bright or reflective clothing.
●
Always stop before crossing a street.
●
Bikes must have lights and reflectors after dark.
●
Children under the age of 15 must wear a helmet while biking.
●
If walking, jogging or biking at night, please have a friend with you.
●
Bikes are not allowed on the sidewalks.
Please...Think Safe and Be Safe!
